To a business most likely a poor idea.
To a hobby most likely a very good idea.
It establishes a true worth of the item to both the seller and the buyer.

The seller is not going to go below what is believed to be its worth unless like my son use to say "If I have two of an item one is a treasure and the other is junk".

This hobby has turned from a hobby into a business and for that very reason I stopped collecting chips some time ago and turned my full attention to reference work to honor my late son. No values of any kind have or will ever be used. Trash or treasure is up to each individual.

My 1½¢'s worth.
