Let me respond with a few answers to your very good questions posed Andy.

First of all, just let me preface my remarks by saying this issue is not about Jim Frederickson... but is an issue of principle regarding the authorized use of the club logo.

Second of all; the current logo we are speaking about first appeared several years ago on the front cover of Bill Akeman's now-defunct "Gaming Times" magazine and was developed by Bill's in-house art department. While I was Club President, I wrote to Bill asking for permission for the club to adopt the new logo design for club use. Bill Akeman granted the club EXCLUSIVE permission to use the logo provided it was for club use and not private use.

Lastly and probably most importantly; Here is what is written in the club By-Laws (approved by the membership) regarding the use of the club logo with respect to Chapters. If a Chapter must apply for permission .... would it not be logical for a private individual to apply for similar permission?

C. Rights of Chapters

1. Club chapters shall have the right to use the name and logo of the Club in such similar form as shall be approved by the Club. Any proposal to use the Club logo for items other than stationery, business cards, publications, or banners or signs to be displayed at meetings, shall be submitted to the Club Secretary for approval by the Board of Directors. No chapter shall produce or influence the production of any chip bearing the name, initials or logo of the Club or of the chapter, without the prior approval of the Club Board.

I would hope that the Club Logo Usage Committee will finish up their work in a reasonable amount of time so that the club can publish what exactly the policy is regarding the use of the club logo. I would hate to see every chip show promoter who belongs to the club to be able to simply take the club logo and apply it to their own commercial use. Then every new issue dealer or supplies dealer or book author can then take the logo at will and apply it to their product?

I don't think that the club membership wants to see that happen. Here's that slippery slope argument again. The club logo is a valuable club asset and should be protected instead of being taken for granted because it looks nice in conjunction with privately conducted projects.

The Northern Nevada Chip Show is not sponsored by any Chapter of CC & GTCC ... nor is it sponsored by CC & GTCC. It is a privately operated show that is being undertaken by a show promoter for commercial purposes who happens to be a club member.

Lots of club members undertake commercial projects who should not be able to use the club logo for their private purposes either.

Again, this is not a slam against Jim Frederickson, but a matter of club policy that should be adopted for everyone.
