Hi John,
While it's true that Uncle Sam's issued numbered GO chip sets and a limited number of unnumbered chips without having live table games, the chips are all live in that they can be cashed in at the casino. Also, collectors haven't bought all of the sets made. I'm 99% sure that I could pick up a $1-$100 numbered set in a Dewitt holder at the casino cage for you tomorrow at face value of the chips and tokens if you want one. They didn't sell all of them as of the last time I talked to the people there (about three weeks ago).
As to a casino that doesn't have table games issuing chips, the Brass Ass and JP McGills no longer have table games (the Brass Ass not since well before they closed several years ago, McGills since last summer, July if I remember right). They, along with the Midnight Rose all issued 500 $5 millennium chips because we (the Colorado Chapter of the CC & GTCC) asked them to! They had already placed an order to Chipco for a three chip set of $100 chips from the three casinos to give to their highrollers. We suggested that if the artwork was already done and approved, why not do a 500 $5 LE version of each chip. They followed through on our suggestion. I'm glad they did! This is a prime example of a casino listening to chip collectors as I see it.
