It doesn't seem so easy to me, anyway

Assuming that there is any cross-hatching left on the chip and inlay, I would guess it would be extremely tough to line them up correctly. And I would not be too happy to find out I bought a repaired chip when the repair was not disclosed. And if it is repaired, somewhere down the line, it is quite possible that someone will not disclose it.
