Re: Thanks for your thoughs-Recreating vintage chi

The problem is that most people currently being duped by reproductions/fakes/fantasies aren't knowledgeable or astute collectors, who would know your chips aren't genuine the minute they spotted them. Once your chips are in circulation they will be sold by third parties on eBay, often with a bad scan or with no scan at all and accompanyed by a deceptive description.

And, even if a good scan is presented, inexperienced chip collectors often don't use common sense when examining a chip. Chips that include the opening and closing dates of a casino are a good example. Common sense tells you that the casino itself could not have produced a chip containing its closing date, but such chips are often snapped up by inexperienced collectors who think they've found an obsolete and valuable chip.

Regardless of the safeguards you build in, some unscrupulous seller will find a way to present your chips in such a way that a new chip collector, or the relative of a chip collector looking to purchase a special gift, will be fooled.

The best way to pay tribute to the great chips from the classic casinos is to avoid producing anything that could even remotely be confused with them. There are lots of creative ways to design a chip (lettering styles, etc) that will be classy and give the feel of vintage Las Vegas without producing something that invites abuse in the collecting world.
