I find the segregation aspect of this objectionable.

When I was in high school, I had hair down to the middle of my back. Myself and my friends were on the receiving end of a great deal of harassment from other groups of kids who thought we were degenerates and freaks. Throw geek into the mix in my case as I was taking advanced placement classes.

Teenage kids are going to ridicule and harass other kids who are different from themselves. This isn't a recent phenomenon. While I agree that the teaching of tolerance is important, doing so in school, particularly by the time the kids are in their teens, is the government taking on an impossible task of correcting what has (or has not) been taught at home.

...and where do you draw the line on which group of kids gets their own school? Overweight kids are treated very cruelly by other kids. Should they be provided their own schools? I'd think there are parallels between the two groups (gay and overweight) concerning both the levels of harassment and in the suicide rates.

I can understand separate schools for kids with genuine handicaps and attempting to mainstream those kids when possible, but sexual orientation isn't a handicap.
