Although you have accused me of not answering your questions (I have answered each, as I have shown you), you nonetheless continue to avoid answering even a single one of mine.

My issue with you is this: You work for an American auto manufacturer and I would certainly expect you to not only buy American cars, but to buy one made by the manufacturer you work for. However, calling millions of buyers of foreign cars things like unpatriotic and bad Americans in entirely inappropriate. I will state here and now that I am “as good an American” as you…no justification needed or forthcoming. (Not only that, I am positive there are at least one or two other readers of the ChipBoard who own foreign cars as well, and I am sure that none of them would appreciate your baseless analysis).

“Coming together as one nation as Americans, proud of where they are from” cannot rationally be equated to choosing to buy a poorly engineered American car rather than a superior foreign vehicle. Regurgitating UAW rhetoric may have the desired effect on some, and many automatons will continue to chant the “Buy American” mantra and drive their Aztecs and Tauruses for a short period of time before they break down. I think, though, that discerning buyers, as patriotic as you and as “good Americans” as you will continue to buy the best vehicle that their hard-earned money can buy without regard for who the secondary beneficiary of their purchase will be. Once again I will pose this question to you: The two top-selling cars in the United States are the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. Why do you suppose that is?

My final words to you, Bob, are these: You bought a Sony television. Sony televisions are more expensive than virtually all competitive brands. Why did you buy one? Because you realized that Sony builds a superior product and that they have EARNED your business. This is the most American concept there is… the very heart of our capitalist society. For the same reason that you bought your Sony television, I bought my foreign-made car… it was substantially more expensive than its American competition, but the company EARNED my business by building a better car.

I will CONSIDER buying an American car if and when GM, Ford, and Chrysler (Daimler??) start to EARN my business. Right now, they aren’t even in the ballgame. Millions of people feel this way and buy foreign cars. Probably most are as “patriotic” as you. You as an auto manufacturer can equate buying an American car with being patriotic. I can understand that you have been indoctrinated to feel this way, but can’t agree with this position. What would you think if I told you that anyone who goes to see a foreign-made movie is unpatriotic or a bad American… same thing, isn’t it?

Beyond ceasing the endless repetition of that “Buy American… don’t be ashamed of where you’re from” claptrap, you should learn the correct spelling of such words as “obviosly”, “shurly”, “alot”, “dont”, “havent”, “compring”, “employes”, “japenese”, “forign”, “ludicriss”, “diference”, “illistrate”, “evan”, or “hipocrisy”, all of which you used in your posts. When arguing in writing, you will be much more effective if you spell correctly. And the "GET REAL" is a nice third grade touch as well.)
