Re: Limited Releases- Are they really that bad.

That is something that I forgot about that I have heard in the past. It had been said that a casino has to carry the obligation of those chips on their books until there is a redeption and or the chips have been varifiably destroyed. That is one of the reasons, as I understand, that when a casino is sold they change the chips. It is a way that they call in all the obligations of the previous owners then close the books. The new chips are issued and business goes on with the new owners starting with a clean slate. From time to time, also, a casino might issue new chips and redeem and destroy the old ones. That way they maintain the balance of the chips on their books and can protect themselves from fraud counterfitting or errors in accounting that could otherwise accumulate into huge problems in the future.

Could this be what was happening a couple of years ago when Binions refused to accept chips being redeemed by Stupak. This is just speculation but could there have been concern for books and chips being out of balance especially considering, as I heard, there were boxes of chips in Binions vault after his death. I thought I heard that the number of chips found did not match what was on the books. It was said that those chips were never issued but what if someone got their hands on some of them. That could bankrupt a casino. The high denimination chips were recalled for redemption. When Stupak arrived with large quantities thair legitimacy was questioned. End result though, by getting these chips off the street and back to the cage the house could then write off obligations on outstanding chips and get their books back in order.

In relation to our discussion, if a casino does not have the cash to back alot of chips but wants to release some LEs to capatalize on the demand for them they might plan a number of releases based on holidays etc. then figure how many they can support on their books of each edition. The result would be either fewer releases or more limited quantities of each release. I for one would rather see more chips of fewer releases unless ALL the releases have a legitimate significance. As I have already said, I think there are a few casinos out there releasing some chips for some rediculous occasions.
