Re: Can slabbed casino chips be GOOD for the hobby

Greg,

Can LE's hurt the hobby?

They can and have been the subject of debate. There are several negative sides to LE's:

1) In some cases, distribution is to a handful of insiders who jack up the price;

2) Casinos have charged over face value for some LE's (remember the Colorado casino that did that about a year ago);

3) Other hobby's have been hurt when the manufacturers start making versions of their collectables just for the collectors: baseball cards, beanie babies, and commemorative coins to name a few. Some collectors got slaughtered in these hobbies.

Just because I do not collect them, it doesn't mean I think that they should be removed from the hobby. I don't have a problem with other people collecting them, they are just not for me.
