Sounds like a trap to me. <g> I don't think that complete anarchy is good for the hobby, but I see too many things that seem out of the scope of my definition of the club (i.e. 4 mags and a convention). I feel that attempting to purchase records and building a "clubhouse" are beyond the scope of the club. If I were to run for club office my platform would be as stated above (see the previous i.e.).
If the estimate of 50 people seems low to everyone else, then I can certainly adjust it upward to meet with the concensus of the others. But even so 200/2500 is still less than 10% of the club, and their wants and needs will be outshadowed by the other 90%.
I think that fantasy chips have hurt far more people than slabbing will. I do believe in a free market, one in which the buyers and sellers are free to buy or sell anything that they want (Note: I realize that this undermines the previous point about fantasy chips). I hope that win or lose for either side of the arguement, that we can still come back together as friends. I would hate to think that this would divide the chip board group or the club to the point that their are hurt feelings. I would be happy to answer any questions on my viewpoints relating to this or other chip related issues.
Merry Christmas,
John
