I agree with you John. I think this whole slabbing issue is much ado about nothing. There is one statement you made that I think is 100% WRONG, ie:
"There will still be many chips left off of the slab, especially current and limited edition chips."
New stuff is slabbed all the time, whether it be year 2000 quarters or Tiger Woods cards. Remember, if and when slabbing infects the hobby you will soon find that new and limited edition chips are not all alike. Alignment of inserts, centering of the inlay, microscopic defects in the chip surface, etc. Believe me, new chips and limited editions WILL be slabbed. Just wait, when 2002 Four Queens St Paddy's Day chips are issued, some slabbing service will determine that there may only be a dozen or so Gem Mint 10 (or Gem Mint 100, or whatever perfection is). Those dozen will now be sold for many multiples of an unslabbed piece.
