Re: Convention Chip Thoughts & Chip of the Year

Right on Neal! Jim P. does have a valid point. He was successful in getting 50% passed of what he was seeking in the "New Constitution", which hopefully will be getting published in this upcoming issue of the club magazine. However, Jim didn't say HOW he accomplished that feat. It wasn't through whinning and moaning on this BB or other cyber forums, (which I'll not mention). It was because Jim took the time and effort to follow the rules, which the club officers are bound by and which we do try to follow (honestly). Jim submitted his proposed changes IN WRITING, to the President, which is what the Constitution calls for; and after one false start of which I have soley accepted the blame; it did finally get published in the club magazine and the membership at this past convention voted upon it, as per the then current C & BL.
It's not enough to talk and argue on the various electronic outlets about issues that some members may like or not like to see changed, as long as it is done in proper taste. Sure, some heated exchanges may let off some steam, temporarily, but somewhere along the line someone has to sit down and write out that proposal.... which Jim did. These bulletin boards are excellent vehicles to feel out certain "talking points", ala Miss Lewinsky. However, one cannot make a motion on this forum and expect the club officers to act upon it. That;s not what the Constitution calls for. These forums do not represent the membership at large... only a certain portion of the membership.... and only those who are on-line and take the time to read it.

Not to be argumentive here, but I think that some of Jim's comments should have been more specific as to whom he was directing them to. If it was at the club officers; then perhaps I should not have made this post and simply ignored Jim as being Jim. If no one on the board is willing to do what someone is asking (sometimes demanding) be done.... what's wrong with an officer asking, "why don't you do it"?? As for the comment, "submit your suggestion to the board in writing", I hope we aren't confusing "suggestions" with proposed C&BL changes. If we are; then yes, they MUST be submitted in writing.
Here we go again! Archie.
