Spent the Night at Whiskey Pete’s October, 1990.

As a recently turned 21 year old, I made several trips driving there with college friends. Often, we wouldn’t even drive the extra 45 minutes to Vegas.

I can still taste the $1 hot dogs and shrimp c0cktails there. Ate way too many of both of those.

One weekend in October 1990 my friend and I decided to drive there on a Saturday afternoon spend the night in one of their $12 (with AAA discount) rooms, resort fees were still years away, and hammer his Pittsburgh Steelers to beat my Los Angeles Rams the next day, and drive home.

After stopping at Barstow Station, we arrived later than expected. I proceeded to go on a blackjack run for the ages, considering my base bet was $5. I believe the minimum was $2. Somehow was up $300 after an hour or so. Decided to play some slots and won another $300. I thought I discovered how to beat the casino.

I had planned to bet $100, a large sum back then for a college student, but since I was up big I decided to risk $550 to win $500 on the Steelers against the spread.

Even though I was a Rams fan, I felt this was a lock. Steelers ended up winning 41-10, if memory serves and I left Primm with a $1,000 profit. grin

Headed back home thinking I should be a professional gambler. 😆 We had brought a cooler and had the bright idea to fill it with ice and bring back a dozen of the Whiskey Pete’s finest foot long hot dogs. They surprisingly travelled well, but glad we didn’t decide to bring back any shrimp
C0cktails lol..
