Re: Charles Kaplan's solution
In Response To: Re: Charles Kaplan's solution ()

A few words of caution about that last solution because I feel VERY lucky my chip is sitting in my hands right now. Mine arrived with the perforated cardboard edge open/burst. Inside, a vinyl flip WAS (note past tense) taped to the inside of the mailer, but only on one edge, which allowed the vinyl to "sway" (my opinion). The chip was completely free-floating inside during its trip, as was evidenced by the black smudges from the chip sliding around inside. Would not surprise me that the postal carrier had to physically put it back in the mailer as it seems like there was no way it could not have fallen out. So, all of that said, I'M SUPER HAPPY THAT I GOT MY CHIP, and I'm also SUPER HAPPY THAT CHARLES TOOK THE TIME TO MAKE THIS WHOLE THING HAPPEN.

But, here are my recommendations:

1. Tape any/all perforated edges of your envelope/mailer, but for convenience for the recipient, do not tape over the "pull here to open" tab.
2. Taping vinyls to the sides is a great idea, but apply tape to at least 2 outer edges. Not the center, and not just on one edge.
3. If using only one side/half of a vinyl flip (Charles used a full/double, but it was not folded over), double up on the tape covering the open edge to prevent breakouts.

I took some pictures of the envelope and contents so you can see what I'm talking about.

P.S. I am in no way angry with Charles, and wasn't even going to mention this to him or anyone else (I got my chip, so who cares, right?). But seeing this post made me think this would be a good learning/teaching opportunity for all of us. Charles, my deepest apologies if you feel I'm throwing you under the bus here. Not my intention, so please accept my pre-apology.
