With the right training and practice 8 decks can be counted. Management has several tools they can use to discourage card counters.

Cut the shoe in half

Limit suspected card counting player to one hand

Create a table maximum bet of $100 at one hand for the suspected card counting player while leaving the posted table limit for the rest of the players

These were some of the ways utilized when I was a manager on the casino floor in A.C.
