Re: Tahoe Historians - Help Please!

Yaaaaay, Mark! grin The card that he shows is the third card that I mentioned.

Doing a little digging...in the Doug Saito auction catalog, of the Will Posthumus Lake Tahoe chip collection, there are several small crown chips that say "Nevada Club - Reno & Crystal Bay".
Lot #224 was "manufactured as first issues in 1958 by T.R. King and Company"
Lot #225 was also manufactured in 1958
Lot #226 was manufactured in 1962
Lot #228 was manufactured in 1967
Lot #229 was also manufactured in 1967
All of the above are roulette chips, "Reno and Crystal Bay"...and I'm "assuming" that Doug got the dates from TR King.

also...

Lot #230A is a $5 chip TCR N6596, Nevada Lodge - Lake Tahoe...issued in 1960

Lot #230B is a $5 chip TCR N5381, Nevada Lodge - no city...issued in 1960

Lot #232A is a $25 chip TCR N5380, Nevada Lodge - no city...issued in 1963

Lot #235 is a 500 chip TCR N5379, Nevada Lodge - Lake Tahoe...issued in 1959
Lot #236 is the matching 1000 chip TCR N5378...1959

And....from Doug Saito's Hank Boss Auction Catalog #3

"Upon purchasing the Tahoe Biltmore, Fitzgerald erected a sign above the place--the Nevada Club. And therinafter would come the confusion that would lead chip collectors to think that the Nevada Club and the Nevada Lodge were two different gaming enterprises in Crystal Bay, a scenic locale on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

There was a reason why the sign read Nevada Club instead of Nevada Lodge. Because it was the original sign that had been erected above the entrance to the Nevada Club on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe, a sign that Lincoln Fitzgerald had purchased and had hauled up to the North Shore in time for his Nevada Lodge opening of 1958.

Scrimping on the making of a casino sign was unlike the amounts of money Fitzgerald would pour into refurbishing his Nevada Lodge. Whereas the old Tahoe Biltmore was set well back on a hillside from the main thoroughfare of Highway 27, Fitzgerald built a ground floor as an addition to the original building and a staircase was added for access to the hotel lobby which would become a part of the second floor.
.
.
.
The Nevada Lodge in Crystal Bay would be sold in 1985, and just as Lincoln Fitzgerald had borrowed a name from a casino in the past, so too did the new owners. The Nevada Lodge was renamed the Tahoe Biltmore, which was its original name in the early 1950's and which still operates today, virtually unchanged from the time that Lincoln Fitzherald made his major renovations to the place"

Thank you, Doug Saito! grin
