Well written Keith. I agree completely...

Everything is going electronic and it makes sense to. A paperless society is a great idea and more of a reality everyday. This is another example.

Would you rather search through a couple thousand pages to find the chip you need a value for or just type in a couple words in a chip database and have the computer find it for you?

Besides, physical printed guides and books just take up space, get dirty and worn, and like you mentioned, waste trees. When they are outdated, they are thrown out and wasted. A database however doesn't do any of those things.

It will happen eventually, the question is who wants to get the ball rolling?
