Me thinks that perhaps the casino was just overboked and you got bounced.
NO I don't see this as an excuse but more as something that happens often.
In Atlantic City it is not unusual for the hotels to book to 110% of capacity as there are always a bunch on no shows.
Every now and then 101% show up and that's when they try to get alternate accomodations for their guests
