I have been plagued with telemarketing like the next guy so I put in a caller ID but some times my son or wife calls on the cell phone and it shows up as ‘unavailable’ rather than ‘wireless’. Not wanting to miss these calls I answer them, and expect it to be telemarketing. When the caller asks for my wife or me using the full legal name, it’s obvious it is. The first words after hearing this I asks “Is this telemarketing?” Almost 99.9% of the time they admit to being telemarketing. Then I use one of two sentences… #1 Response is “I am sorry but we do not accept telemarketing calls, please remove me from your list.” Almost 100% of the time the response is something to the effect “I am sorry to bother you and I will remove your name from our list, thank you (and sometimes state what company they are). #2 Response is (in a nice soft calm voice ask) “Why don’t you get a REAL job and quit bothering people.” Almost 100% of the time this invokes profanity directed at your mother from their end as you are laughing and hanging up. Hearing your dial tone surely makes them simmer. These two responses have almost always resulted in one of the two responses hundreds of times, try it! It’s like they are required to let you off the hook when they hear the first response and human nature kicks in full blast on the second. Try it. Use #1 most often, it never hurts to be nice, after 2 in the same day, switch to response #2 and get under THEIR skin for a change.
