Telemarketing Laws (NCR)

Telemarketing Laws Protect You

Over the past few years several laws regarding telemarketing have been passed to help protect consumers. If you're not familiar with your fights Please read this article Your legal protections include:
·
limitations on hours of calling,
·
limitations on the types of numbers that can be called,
·
requirements that the caller must identify him or herself and the purpose of the call,
·
prohibitions on repeated, harassing calls,
·
prohibitions on unsolicited fax advertisements.

Since there are state laws, in addition to the federal law, I suggest you call the state consumer protection agency for more
specifics on the telemarketing laws in your state.

Also, the Direct Marketing Association has a Telephone Preference Service that you can put your name on if you prefer not to receive unsolicited calls. This will not eliminate all telemarketing calls to your home, but it can help reduce them.
To register with the DMA's do-not-call file, you must send your name(s), home address and home phone number (including area
code) and signature in a letter or on a postcard to:

Telephone Preference Service
Direct Marketing Association
P.O. Box 9014
Farmingdale, NY 11735-9014

You must submit this in writing via the postal service so that the DMA can verify the information.
