I must say I agree with you on what you have said. Andy does have some of the more fair prices that I have seen. I bought some $1 chips from him a few months ago. I think it was $2.50 each. He doesn't charge s/h. I recall that I originally thought that the price was a little more than I expected but when I considered the fact that he wasn't charging for shipping I was very satisfied. I realized that the cost was warranted because of that. Had he added a s/h fee I would have given more serious consideration. The main issue, as you state, is if all fees are up front. Then I can add them together and determine if my final price is fair or not. If s/h is high than I don't bid as much for a chip. If it is low, I will bid a little more. In any case, I bid to a final price that I believe is fair.
I do like your example of a $25 chip. If you charge $31 and add a dollar shipping and handling there is no difference than charging $32 and including shipping. Also, note that if you buy multiple chips, than the above example is the same as saying $1 shipping for each chip. Regardless of the fact that 5 or 6 chips can be mailed for the same price. Each additional chips does represent more profit.
Andy's situation I would add does discount the price for multiple chips based on certain numbers. Looking at his page now I see, $1 chips $2.50 ea 10 for $22. Only suggestion that I would offer to Andy here would be that maybe another break off in between 1 and 10 chips would be good. Maybe 5? I don't know. Either way he is up front with his price and very reasonable.
People need to recognize and adjust for the different methods of pricing. I think the sensitivity that was expressed about selling to someone who charges s/h and you don't, you have to realize that if the other guys regular price is a buck less than yours it is still fair for him/her to charge the s/h. If he/she is selling for more than you or equal and still adding the s/h than you might have a gripe.
