James, it all depends on the chips you are talking about. If they're both current chips, then usually one for one is the norm. However, of course, exception do occur and quite frequently.

Some people think their time is worth more than yours and might demand a premium just due to the fact that they had to go out of their way to get these chips instead of just across the street. This is understandable if they were making a special trip just to accommodate you, but in most instances, they are getting chips for themselves as well as for trading purposes.

Some chips have limited runs and therefore command a premium.

You will learn very quickly what a good trade is. The bottom line is, are you satisfied with the trade? If so, then it was a fair trade.
