Chip trading etiquette question?

I just began collecting and I know this is a little dumb to ask after the fact. But oh well. LOL

When trading chips do you normally trade face value for face value $1 for $1 and $5 for $5 or can you swap a $5 for a $1 or multiple $1's? And is it rude to ask for more than one lesser value chips for a single higher face valued chip? I really don't want to upset people by ensuring a little proper chip trading etiquette.

For those of you that I have recently already made arrangements for trades,I am happy with those. So don't get alarmed.

I just thought this might be an interesting topic for a new thread for new collectors. And from some of the recent activity on this board a few old timers too. LOL
