How many chippers leave their computers runing 24/7?

Recently, I've had problems with my HP computer not remembering my scanner after shutting down the PC for the evening. When I fire it up the following morning, the computer is unable to locate my scanner and I must un-install and re-install the software cd in order to get it working again. I've been advised simply not to shut down the computer. Anyone else have a similar problem.... or how many of you don't shut shut down after each time you use your PC?
