Re: Grading and encapsulation

Exactly,

I doubt anyone here would object if I told them that I take my chips and put them in those cardboard flips and write down the condition of the chip on the outside. Many people do this and write down a price as well.

What they really object to is the idea of a commercial enterprise grading the chips (encapsulation is just used to prevent fraudulent alteration of the assigned grade). You see the slab is just a symbol, if it doesn't have a grade on it no one objects, because if they don't like the slab, they just remove it.

So Joe, if you are given the chance to ban the sale of slabbed chips at club events, does that mean that I can't sell my chips if I grade them and encapsulate them myself?

If so, how about if I grade them and put them in an airtight, or a cardboard flip. How about if I don't encapsulate them, can I grade them and tell people what the grade is?

How exactly are you going to define a "slabbed chip" for the purpose of your ban.

This isn't about "libertarianism" since we libertarians don't object to private clubs enacting their own rules for people who choose to be a member.

This is about people remaining rational and thinking out the benefits and liabilities of a policy before they enact. All someone needs to do is come on this board and say grading or slabbing to get a knee jerk response.

I doubt that the club could fashion a ban of slabbed chips that would not end up being a bigger problem than the threat of slabbing is.
