Bid rigging by buyers is, for the most part, largely academic. The reason for this, I feel stems from the fact there are too many people involved. Coordination, invaribly, falls apart.

Shill bidding, on the other hand, is done with alarming frequency and accuracy. Reason? It is normally done by two people and coordinated by the seller -- a very efficient method.
