Generic Generic and Custom Generics
In Response To: Re: Generics are Generics ()

Generic chips can fall into two categories: custom and manufacturer's generic. Custom generic chips are ordered by a casino for use in multiple locations. The best example of custom generics are those used on many of the cruise ship, like Holland America or Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). The chips have the cruise line name on them and are only used on their ships.

But truly generic chips are not made for a casino or casino management company. Typically they are made for retail sales. Generic chips are rarely used in casinos because they could be bought for less than face value and then be worth face value if they are brought to a casino where they are in use.

The "Generic Chip" category on the ChipGuide is used for manufacturer's generic chips.
