If you don't want the envelope to go thru the machine all you have to do is put on another $.20 (.64 total)in postage and write on the outside of the envelope NON-MACHINABLE in large red letters. I put the chip in a flip and wrap it in very thin foam padding and have never had a problem (as long as the envelope is under 1/4" thick).
