"Mineral" oil is still petroleum based and I am not sure about about the long-term affects of petroleum-based product on clay composition chips, but we are concerned about PVC flips and chips.
Still a personal choice. I sure hope you are pushing away from your body and keep the chip in a block, as opposed to holding it with your free hand!
