Jim, It's Occupational Currency....

Occupational Currency used during WWII to rebuild the economies of overthrown or disrupted countries. Many times the Japanese would counterfeit the currency of a country to disrupt its economy. It was issued in the language and denominations of the country being invaded for smooth transition to the new currency.

1942 issued 5 Peso used in the Philippines after Japan’s occupation.
(Front) The Monument is the Dr. Jose Rizal Monument in Manila Philippines. It was built by Swiss sculptor named Richard Kissling.

Very common and of low value. These had a short lifespan and became worthless as the US liberated the Philippines. Yours is a conversation piece -
