Re: Newport Oregon Report Part V

Downtown

448 SW Coast Highway

When I finally made it to the poker game at Rogues Ales, I heard several people talking about the poker games at Moby Dick’s. Moby Dick’s is another restaurant/night club. This one is located on the main strip in and out of town, the Coast Highway. If there is a downtown area of Newport, this is it. If I remember correctly, the poker games at Moby’s were held twice a week. I seem to recall Wednesday night being one of the two nights. In any case, they certainly have some gaming. They list it on their web-site and even show a game room on their sign. One thing I remember for sure is that the house dealer actually plays in the game. Hmm…

I never made it there. I never had the opportunity after I heard about the game. If anyone makes it there, call Moby Dick’s in advance to find out when the games are played. If you can find any chips with their name on it, I want one! vbg

722 NW Beach

Along the coast and toward the North is a shopping area. In that part of the town is yet another restaurant which is reputed to have had gaming at some point, The Sandbar. References to it on the internet have slightly differing names. Well, I believe this is the same place. I could not find any reference to any other Sandbar in Newport, Oregon.

Chipper and chip guide author extraordinaire, Steve Goodrich sold me a plastic chip from there, but I’m not sure what it was used for.
