OK, i see where you are coming from but if i raise with the A,2 and the button comes over the top i pass for sure, then the flop comes A,10,2 and i feel very silly because i raised with a weak hand which turned into a 'lock' after the flop. Sure i could have saved myself money ultimately by raising preflop but i cant go into every hand with 'damage limitation' in mind i want to accumulate chips. You say they had more outs than me after the flop but i hade made my hand, they still had to hit theirs, so i would go all the way with this hand every day.
