Thank you all for your input.

I am happy to have finally made a post that didn't result in someone wanting to kick my a$$. grin

I thank you all for your input and many good ideas.

Somewhere in here I was given credit for the idea that the club should provide a 'disposal service'. grin
That was not MY idea, but it is a very useful one!

What could possibly be more useful to the family of a deceased club member than having knowledgeable people take on the burden of extracting the true cash value from a deceased member's collection.

I'm sure there are many among us who would be happy to undertake such a project just for the pleasure of handling and examining an interesting collection. And all collections are interesting to some degree.

If the member passed away in an acceptable time frame, maybe the collection could be auctioned at the next CC>CC convention.

In any case, I add my voice to those suggesting that the CC>CC look into this.

If those of you involved in the coin and stamp collecting hobbies could get copies of those club's assistance guidelines, that would probably be a big help kick starting the operation.

If it is decided that the club does not want to provide a service in some degree,
(there are several possible levels of involvement, all the way from providing a complete auction service, down to maintaining a list of dealers interest in handling liquidations, and to club members willing to offer advice and assistance),
then as a group we should at least compile a guide for collectors on how to prepare for the disposal of their collection(including all of the ideas put forth in the posts above), with a second guide for survivors.

To my mind this sounds like a very worthwhile project, and EXACTLY the kind of thing that the CC>CC SHOULD be doing for its members.
