I have orange chips that scanned Offwhite, yellow, pink and yes even orange. I think it is the way the light in scanner is absorbed into chip . can not figure it out. I have put someting behind chip, tried putting chip into plastic page. does not change the outcome. Here is a scan of orange chip that is orange
