They didn't include the Airport. They simply said where it was. The "strip" definition given was very clear:

""The Strip runs from the Stratosphere at the northern end, to the Mandalay Bay on the southern end.""

Like I said, it sounds good to me. While locals can pound out details ad naseuam.. I think most tourists and outsiders would define "the strip" per above.
