How can you tell when the recarving took place? You can't! Then, how can you say that it is in the same era? How long is an era? IMO, all recarvings are alterations, therefore fakes. You say that the worn red dye is not important. I say that it is very important. Wear takes time. Sure, the dye could have been completely removed, but it wasn't.
