Its about 10 miles past Oceans 11, where all the exits come close together.

Here are my apparent options.
Direct London - LAX, arriving LAX 4pm or 7pm (so would actually hit the road at 5pm or 8pm) - latter must be better?

London - San Diego via LAX (could go via Houston but Continental far more expensive than AA plus I have 19000 airmiles which will cover one AA ticket) - still arrives LAX 4pm then from memory depart 6pm arrive SD 7pm. Hit the road 8pm for 50 miles drive back north.
