An appropriate reward ...
In Response To: NCR am I wrong? ()

... for a good deed?

On several occasions, I have done small good deeds (returning or turning in lost items and/or helping out stranded drivers with jump start, ride, etc.). I have never expected or accepted any offer of payment or reward. In response to such offers, I always say something like, "Return the favor by returning to its owner a lost item you find or by helping someone else in need."

I once left my camera at a shooting gallery at Knott's Berry Farm (an amusement park in Southern California). The unknown (to me) person who found it turned it in at the change booth and I was able to get it back shortly after. Other strangers have done small favors over the years. I think of myself as more or less even in overall "good deeds" picture.

It may be a cliche (or hopelessly old-fashioned), but to me it's a simple matter of doing for others what I hope they would do for me.
