There is absolutely nothing wrong or unethical with a seller quoting a value out of the current edition of widely accepted and widely used price guide and your buddy Jim knows it.

I don't understand what this has to do with the issue in question. Are you suggesting that an ebay seller is responsibile for educating you with respect to the item being sold?
