I'm not a condition collector, except
In Response To: Pete ()

I don't like the chip to look something better than one that went through a blender or fell into a garbage disposal.

If I can read it, and it looks "nice" and I "need" it, then it goes into the collection.

If I was in the business of selling chips, I'd be happy to make scans and tell any potential buyer whatever it took to sell them. I'd try to buy only the best condition chips and sell them as such.

I'm not. I'm just a collector who sometimes buys and sells chips, mostly to support being a Chipaholic. vbg Which means if I ever made any profit, it's already spent on more chips.

So what grading scale does one use for measuring the condition of cross hatching? (this is bait, please don't answer, there is no answer)

Does a token aligned or coin aligned chip, make it worth more than the other 95% of the same chips?

To each their own, especially if you are buying from me, which means all my chips are higher quality and condition than anyone elses same chips. Because I said so! grin

Reality: They are plastic casino chips. They aren't minted.

If some day, someone came up with a 10 point grading system, that most could agree on. The day after it was published, someone else would have a chip that was listed as a very good 9 1/2!

Too much of chip grading is subjective and most of it is irrelevant.

Most chips are about the same, of the same chip. They had the same use and the occasional great one, is unusual. Most new chips and LEs are like new, or at least should be, since they were plucked from the tables when they were issued. Most bulk buys are either, almost unused because the best can be culled out of the 5,000 examples.

Hey, a new grading system. 1) Better than average, 2) Average, 3) Less than average condition. (of course some folks will insist, everyting will turn out to be Better Than Average, even if they are just Average!)

Now you know why I don't collect condition or grade.
