I'm just offering a different opinion...

It appeared to me that your post was not specifically talking about the chip that was listed on the ebay auction but rather you were offering your opinion that we as collector's should NEVER use the word "mint" to describe a chip because they are not minted like coins are.

I too enjoy expressing my opinion from time to time and offered an opposite point of view on your post.

I understood your original statement to indicate that since chips are not "minted" such as coins are, it would be wrong for anyone to use the word "mint" to describe their condition. I respect your opinion but will have respectfully disagree. I feel that the word "mint" can be used to describe the condition of any object and agree with Mr. Webster on this one. (Even though his is a little on the short side and feels he can run the state of Califonia? grin).

The club has adopted a grading standard that does not even mention the term "Mint Condition". Perhaps it's time that chip collectors also adopted the club's definition when applied to casino chips instead of Mr. Webster's general "mint condition" term that applies to everything from soup to nuts... and paintings?

As far as the club's "Offical CC>CC Grade & Condition Descriptions". I would love to see all of us adopt a standard for describing the condition of our chips! I guess this is something we do agree about.

I will be the first to admit that I AM absolutely CLUELESS to what those terms were. In fact, I will even go as far to admit that I have given no regard to using these standards in the past when I've tried to describe a chip. How many of us really do? So I took the initiative and found that page on the club board. Here is the link:

http://www.ccgtcc.com/officialdescriptions.htm

On this page they offer the following official grades:

  • New (N)
  • Slightly Used (SU)
  • Average (A)
  • Well-Used (WU)
  • Poor (P)
  • Speciman,Sample,Prototype,Pattern

I hesistate to even bring this up but I visited your website to see what terms you were using to describe chips your for sale.

http://www.callzia.com/dghome/acchips/AC4Sale.htm

I see you have a "CONDITN" column and you use the following terms:

  • Notched
  • Excellent
  • Used
  • Various
  • Circ.
  • Abt.Unc.
  • New

I see you used the term "Excellent" to describe most of the chips that you have for sale.

It appears that both of us have a long way to go in adopting and using the club's adopted standards.

I hope our discussion on this subject will be positive and bring to the attention of our membership about these guidelines. Hopefully all of us can start thinking about trying to use the club's standards in the future.
