How can something be worth more than...

it can be sold for? I'm not talking specifically about this auction, but in general.

If there is no market for an item, it has no significant value. If only a small group of people collected chips and they weren't willing to pay more than, let's say $100 for a chip, then no chip would be worth more than $100, regardless of its scarcity.

I don't see how it can be otherwise. If I've missed an important point in coming to this conclusion, please let me know. I'm really curious grin
