They appear to be old clay poker chips, Bill. They do break fairly easily, but don't get more fragile with age, in my experience.

These antique chips typically sell for from $10-50 a hundred at retail and are frequently seen in antique shops and malls. Colors other than red, white (or cream as aged) and blue are scarcer. They also come in a couple of smaller sizes for traveling sets.
