Re: IT ALWAYS PAYS TO ASK...
In Response To: IT ALWAYS PAYS TO ASK... ()

Lately while driving around I have been seeing a lot of garage and yard sale signs around. Being that I am always on my way somewhere and don't have the extra time to go check them out. I have always wondered though how often people find casino memorabilia out there. I would also go a step further and simply say something more generic like gaming or gambling memorabilia. There might be items that were never connected with a casino that could be interesting. Among the first house sale items that I recall acquiring was from a next door neighbor who was moving out of his house after about 20 years or so. He had a beautiful set of poker chips that we picked up. Don't know what they are made of, I assume Plastic, but they were in a nice carousele(sp?). I know we picked them up for nearly nothing. They had his wifes name on them (NANCY). She had died some years earlier from a bad accident. We got those along with a Hams Beer Neon sign. I think the sign still works in fact. We did break it once and had to have a small repair made to the tubing. We have had the items now for about 30 years. I have often thought it might be interesting to see what kind of old antique poker chip sets might be out there.

I also remember a set that my dad had when we were little. They were bakelite I think and in a little briefcase with some trays. Us kids weren't all that respectful of such things in those days and unfortunately the trays were all broken and most of the chips lost. I still have a few of the chips and the case I think.
