there are restrictions as to what owners of private property may do. And I doubt they may permit their clients to sell something publicly displayed for public wear and then seize someone for wearing it--at least without proper notice. And while escorting a "trespasser" off the premises, is as you note, not a citizen's arrest, it can and should subject the mall owners and the sercurity folk to civil action for false arerst.
