I also lost some rare, old material years ago...

It doesn't take much to damage an older inlay after water seeps under the slightest fracture (unseen with the naked eye) around its edge... or directly into a protective film that has become porous from being dried out.

But, not to worry... just call your local chip repairman (the co-operatve; upfront-type... ).
