Jim & Cindy; Not all chips should be treated alike. I can tell you from personal experience that I have ruined some great chips as a result of cleaning. A chip that looks real nice after undergoing a cleaning treatment may not look so nice two or three years from now. One should be particularly cautious about cleaning some early chips from Deadwood for example ... or Puerto Rico chips with paper center inlays. A harsh scrubbing of these type chips will make you wish you had never touched the surface of those chips. Experienced chippers will confirm that hard-learned lesson. Worn chips, as a general rule, should not be cleaned ... cleaning does not improve grade. But as others have said ... they are your chips to do whatever you want with them. Personally speaking, I only clean modern chips that are in relatively good condition that just need the surface cleaned of light soiling.
