Re: Chip Control Question
In Response To: Chip Control Question ()

These are MY feelings. The King of Blackjack $25 chip was made by the Four Queens and supposedly paid for by the individual who was willing to pay the price to see his name on a chip. They were all sold to the individual and were not made for casino use. I consider this chip to be a souvenir item but they are still live and can be be used or cashed at the casino. TCR has treated this like other $25 chips and valued accordingly.

The $100 Oscar Goodman chip was also bought up by Mayor Goodman and only a few were released to individuals. The only difference is that this chip and the $5 & $25 chip were made for casino play. The fact that the 100 were bought up by the mayor was an agreement between him and the casino. Casinos have the right to do as they wish with their chips. TCR has valued this chip as most other $100 chips as they can be released at any time that Goodman wishes to part with them. If we valued them at $500 or $1000, he may wish to part with them sooner but it is not our purpose to set values. Market sales do this and at the moment there is no market for these chips.

The Four Queens quarter Pai Gow 2000 and 2001 chips were supposedly ordered by, delivered and sold by an employee without permission or the knowledge of the owner or higher-ups. They were made only for profit to the employee. TCR does not consider these to be casino chips and have valued them as souvenirs.

There have been chips made to promote chip shows, both by the casinos for our annual convention and by individual promoters such as Bill Akeman and Rene Nezhoda. If any of them are played on the tables, they would be condidered a casino chip. If not, they, in my opinion, will be considered an ad chip, a promotion or a souvenir. The individual who had them made has the priviledge of giving them away or selling them for any value that he wishes. At the same time, it is the priviledge of us, the buyers, to either purchase them or refuse to purchase them.

It is true that I have an ulterior motive regarding Rene's 2002 chip show at the Palace Station, since I was one of the honorees chosen to be pictured on his chips. I consider these to be promotional or advertising chips and valued as such. I think that Rene was going to place a fair market value on them and collectors could choose to buy them or not. I am sorry to learn that one of our members felt moved to call Nevada Gaming in an attempt to halt Rene's project. I can not see how this can be good for our hobby.
