History of Money Tree, Reno, and the World...
In Response To: Check this out, Larry ()

...OK, maybe just the Money Tree grin. Obviously, I should have just gone straight to Kling's book. But then I wouldn't have seen Steve's cool postcard, and I don't think the information would have sunk in as well.

I just got back from the proverbial field trip. I don't know why I assumed Steve's postcard showed W. 2nd and N. Virginia. Must have been the 211 N. Virginia address. The picture below is W. 2nd and N. Sierra, looking northeast. Across the street to the left is the new Golden Phoenix.

Based on Kling and TCR, here's the best info I have:

July 1, 1969 - Money Tree opens at 211 N. Virginia.

July 1, 1978 - Money Tree expansion opens at 45 W. 2nd, with 2nd floor connection over Fulton Alley. At the same time, Circus Circus and Sahara Reno opened.

January 7, 1980 - Money Tree expansion closes. Too much competition.

July, 1980 - The pit is closed at the N. Virginia casino.

May, 1981 - Money Tree expansion reopens.

December, 1982 - Money Tree and Mapes are both closed for good.

June 19, 1987 - Eddie's Fabulous 50's opens, at both Money Tree addresses.

August 1, 1989 - Eddie's is closed.

1993 - Carl Giudici opens The Gambler at the N. Virginia address.

1996 - Eddie's reopens at the W. 2nd address.

???? - Eddie's closes for the last time.

2000 - The Gambler closes.

2002 - Rocky's opens at the N. Virginia address.

OK, one question I can't seem to find the answer to... when did Eddie's close for good?
