In my opinion ... and many others ... it is the LE's that have attracted most of the new-comers to the hobby these past few years and is responsible for the club's growth.
Having said that, LE's have also chased away some of the veteran collectors because of some of the abuses in issuing some of these extremely limited or insignificant chip issues which tend to commemorate the rise and setting of the sun each day ... or of the clock striking midnight each evening.
I personally think that with this club approaching its 15th birthday next year.... we can no longer say that it is still in "its infancy". In some ways the club can be compared to a teenager who wants to spread its wings, and to assert its independence, and do its own thing to some degree. Some factions resent authority or rules (just like some teenagers do). Like a good parent..., the structure of CC & GTCC and an elected Board is charged with enforcing some unpopular rules and regulations and policies with which teens sometimes rebel against.
What will this hobby be like in ten years?? This member believes that it will be a period of testing our resolve. Does the majority of club members want to continue to build and support our parent organization, or is there enough sentiment to simply "have fun" and break away from a political structure with defined rules that a Constitution and ByLaws provide?
I too believe that this thread belongs on the club message board. It's hard to reply "over there" though, when the original post was initially made here. More expanded use of the club message board by the club membership (and elected officers) also demonstrates support for what the club has to offer. We might want to keep that in mind for future posts relating to the future of our fine organization which took this many years to build and get into the habit of posting "club stuff" on the club message board.
